I'm knitting, I swear. And reading JenLa. And that's about all.
Mostly, though, I'm cleaning out the garage and office. Why? Well, dh and I had a Marital Moment on Saturday, and I was reminded that I am 40 and have certain adult responsibilities, several of which I have allowed to languish despite my ample unemployed free time. He's right. (Egad, don't tell him I said that.) So I got out my Martha Stewart label maker, several large plastic bins, and a box of contractor's garbage bags, and got to work.
A week later, the end is in sight. Yes, a week. What? Oh. I'm a pack rat. Irrefutable evidence: I still have (or had, until I pitched it this week) the Ryder truck rental agreement for the truck I rented to move from UCLA to San Francisco for law school in August 1987. Just to give you a little perspective, that summer Whitney Houston didn't take drugs or even know Bobby Brown yet--she was busy skipping through her videos singing "I Wanna Dance With Somebody." Madonna was still pairing snow white hair with jet black eyebrows. And Michael Jackson was touring "Bad" instead of being on trial for . . . well you get the idea.
I have to go get rid of more stuff. God only knows what I'll find next. Shoot me. I mean it.

Well, I had a similar situation, i.e; a huge mess that seriously needed to be sorted and things listed on ebay and no job so I just knitted and read blogs until I had a job and guess what? Now I'm too busy to clean. Whoops. I kept waiting for the husband to have that talk with me but now he's unemployed and he isn't doing a thing, so I've got leverage. No grownups in this house.

Found you through Kerstin's site. Have to laugh at this post. I am going through the same thing here. Have stretched this SAHM thing out for 9 years. Finally understand I need to get back to work so my so called "long-suffering" spouse can take a break, ha-ha.
I'm currently looking through receipts dated 1985-1994 looking for ones pertaining to a house we built and sold last year. I remember bragging to my husband that I have never thrown away a receipt since we've been married (1977). Unfortunately I never actually filed them either. The full force of this statement hit me when I came across the receipt for our wedding flowers. Also the calander from 1977 where I wrote down our first date.
It's nice to know I'm in good company. :)

you have lost your mind!
you must never, never say on a public blog, in writing for god's sake, that your husband is right.
even if he is.
delete this entry - quickly!

hey --- where are you? I hope you don't have such loyal readers that they actually took you up on the shoot me thing - personally, I thought you were kidding!

I not only remember Super Yarn Mart but was fortunate enough to have worked there for almost a year. We had a 25% employee discount and boy did I take advantage!!! I am still using yarn from my "stash" and have made many things since I last worked there in '81. I moved back east but always shopped there when visiting CA, then all of a sudden it wasn't there anymore. I don't know what happened either, but I loved that place and my job there. Happy days and nice people.....
